On the heels of the Sturgis Falls Celebration comes 4th of July activities! Take your pick of the Cedar Valley Jaycees’ Fireworks Festival at National Cattle Congress or one of the celebrations taking place in nearby communities.
All the celebrations have a fireworks display at 10 pm on the 4th of July. But, be sure to check all the schedules of events since several celebrations have activities during the day.
Independence Day Celebration, Riverwalk Parks in Independence, Iowa
July 3 – 4
The Independence Day Celebration was named one of “10 Great Events” by the Des Moines Register and includes live entertainment, a 4th of July parade, FunZone, Poker Walk and more! The festivities begin at 4 pm on July 3 with live entertainment at the Band Shell. July 4th activities include the parade at 9 am followed by the Reading of the Declaration and live entertainment throughout the day, culminating in their fireworks display at 10 pm.

Shell Rock Iowa 4th of July Celebration, 214 N. Cherry in Shell Rock, Iowa
The Des Moines Register featured Shell Rock’s 4th of July Celebration in their article, “10 Unique Ways Iowans Celebrate the 4th of July.” Their festivities kick off on Thursday, July 2, and continue through July 4 with live entertainment (including Urban Legend, Skin Kandy and Farm Rock), a carnival, kiddie parade, Duck Races, Cow Chip Bingo and more. www.facebook.com/july4th2014/timeline

Their festivities kick off Friday night with the Fireman’s Dance at 9 pm. Saturday activities include their 5K Walk/Run, bake sale, car show, kiddie parade, Grand Parade at 1:30 pm, Hawkeye Pedal Pull, live music and lots of vendors for food and shopping! The Cedar Valley Jaycees invite everyone to come and celebrate our nation’s independence! Gates open at 4 pm on the 4th of July and admission is free. The Chocolate Crackers perform 4 – 8 pm and The Wicked Andersons perform 8pm – midnight with fireworks taking place at 10 pm.
