1. It’s the World’s Greatest Spring Break!
Thanks to the McElroy Trust, every year our Waterloo museums celebrate the World’s Greatest Spring Break by offering $1 admission to kids and accompanying parents March 16-20. Be sure to check out all the other activities surrounding the World’s Greatest Spring Break.
2. Kidabaloo in Waterloo March 21
Country K98.5 will host a kids’ jamboree at the Waterloo SportsPlex with activities, live entertainment and games for the entire family.
3. Soak in the warmth and the green surroundings of the UNI Botanical Center
Pack a lunch and take a self-guided tour of the UNI Botanical Center in Cedar Falls. The UNI Botanical Center is free and open Monday – Friday. Call ahead to 319-273-2247 to confirm hours over spring break.
4. Palmer’s Family Fun!
Nothing seems more summer-like than mini golf and go-karts! Weather permitting, Palmer’s will be open Monday – Saturday, 11 am – 7 pm. If it’s below 50 degrees and breezy, you’ll need to call ahead to 319-232-9384 to be sure they’re open.
5. Create some Art
Next week, classes for adults and kids begin. Be sure to check out Spring Break Camp Creativity Five-Day Sessions that begin March 16. Call ahead to check availability and to register at 319-273-8641.
7. Visit Hansen’s Farm Fresh Dairy
Tour a working dairy farm one mile southwest of Hudson. Hansen’s Farm Fresh Dairy is a family owned and operated farm and creamery with 150 milking Holsteins on 440 acres. Visitors can view the entire process of getting the milk from the cow to the table. Tours are by appointment only so you’ll need to call ahead to 319-939-2187.
8. Plan a garden or kick back and enjoy a movie
Stop by the Cedar Falls Public Library and watch Super Hero 6 with your family on Thursday, March 19 at 6 pm and enjoy complimentary popcorn and beverages. Come early to read a good book in the solarium or plan your garden using the Seed Library. At 2 pm on Sunday, March 22, join Greg Houseal of the UNI Tallgrass Prairie Center for a prairie planting workshop.
9. Pursue Picasso and create a work of art
Would you like to create a masterpiece? Paint your own pottery at Pursuing Picasso in Cedar Falls. Paint your piece and pick it up after it’s been fired. Walk-ins are welcome!
10. Picnic on the trails
Throw a few drinks and sandwiches into your backpack and hit the trails! The Cedar Valley has an extensive trail system and shelters can be found along the way for breaks and enjoying your lunch.
