The 8th annual ARTapalooza on Main fine art show will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 9:00am-4:00pm on the street and sidewalks of downtown Cedar Falls. Held annually, the juried show brings many talented artists from throughout the region. In addition, there is something for everyone to enjoy as downtown is filled with artist demonstrations, entertainment and children’s activities.
More than 50 regional artists will display and sell their work at booths set up along the meandering Main Street. Artists hoping to showcase their work must pass a highly competitive process to be accepted into the show. Artwork will include ceramics, metal, paintings, glasswork, metal sculptures, fiber, jewelry, photography, drawing, printmaking and mixed media.
Numerous downtown stores, including PeekaBoo Baby, Runner’s Flat, Bike Tech, Vintage Iron, Main Street Sweets, PurseNality, World’s Window, Sassy Chic, Here’s What’s Poppin, Jiva Salonspa, Kitchen Essentials, Lyla’s Boutique and Sweet Basil Market, will have free children’s activities, such as tie-dye coffee filter butterflies and kid-friendly skewer treats, outside their storefronts. The Hearst Center for the Arts will also have face painting, watercolor painting stations and painter’s caps for children to decorate.
New this year is the free Pastel-A-Panel activity where budding artists, 15 and older, will be invited to pastel a small section of a Georgia O’Keeffe painting. The painting has been divided into squares, and each person will pastel one square. Once all the squares are complete, they will be put together to create the final pastel painting.
Other entertainment throughout the afternoon includes artists painting en plein air, the WCF Symphony Zoo, Thai Chi demonstrations, and Balloon Animals with Anna Love. Live music from the UNI Jazz Band, UNI Suzuki School of Music, The Channel Cats, Rick Vanderwall, Uncle Chuck, Bill Guernsey, and Jay Ramsey will be held on the corner of 4th and Main as well as in each block.
Sponsors are Regions Bank, HyVee, Cedar Falls Tourism & Visitors Bureau, Mediacom and Friends of the Hearst Center for the Arts. Artapalooza is hosted by Community Main Street.
