The Cedar Falls Tourism & Visitors Bureau, together with the Waterloo Convention & Visitors Bureau, is gearing up for the annual Cedar Valley Tourism Awards May 14, 2013. It will be held at the Isle Casino Hotel in Waterloo at 4:30 p.m.
This year, the bureaus decided to take a different approach to selecting the award recipients. Instead of requesting that individuals submit nominations for individual organizations, they developed a ballot that lists nominees. These nominees are organizations which responded to an invitation to be included on the online ballot. People within the community will vote for one nominee for each award to determine the recipients, who will be recognized May 14th.
The purpose of the Cedar Valley Tourism Awards is to recognize those organizations that have done an exceptional job within the past year in providing visitors a high quality experience. Five awards are given, each to a different tourism sector. They are Attraction of the Year, Event of the Year, Restaurant of the Year, Lodging of the Year, and Business/Organization of the Year. Each bureau also chooses a friend of tourism, given to a specific person or organization that provided extraordinary support over the last year.
2012 award recipients were McElroy Auditorium at the National Cattle Congress (Attraction), the Sturgis Falls Celebration (Event), McElroy Trust for World’s Greatest Spring Break for Kids (Organization), and the Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo (Hotel). The Restaurant of the Year award is new this year.
We encourage you to fill out the ballot, which you can access here. It is open now through April 30th. Comments are not required, but are strongly encouraged and will be used in the event of a tie. Please note that you will only have access to it once, so be sure to vote for all awards you wish to vote for. Please help us recognize the best of the best in the Cedar Valley!
