Make your holidays magic with Cedar Falls’ Main Street! We’ve got free, family-friendly events planned from Thanksgiving to Christmas throughout downtown. Bring the kids, meet your friends and make great memories this holiday season.
The magic begins downtown on Friday, Nov. 23 with the BIG Holiday Hoopla Kick-Off from 6 to 8 p.m. Enjoy live music, food vendors and street characters, plus Mrs. Claus will be at Santa’s Workshop at 4th and Main. Then join the crowd in welcoming Santa to Cedar Falls! He’ll arrive in style and proceed down Main Street for the official Tree Lighting at Gateway Park. End the night with the beauty and wonder of the winter fireworks over the river!
Join us on Thursday, Nov. 29 for Magical Lights, Magical Nights downtown. Visit the new Holiday Light Show at 4th and Main. Events include free Trolley Rides down Main Street, live Nativity scenes and Santa’s Workshop, all from 6-8 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 1 bring the kids downtown for Breakfast at the North Pole from 8-11 a.m. at the Cedar Falls Community Center on Main Street. The winner will be drawn for the Holiday Hoopla Raffle prize during breakfast. Santa’s Workshop will also be open for visits from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 6 is the annual Jingle and Mingle on Main from 5-8 p.m. with open houses throughout downtown. Enjoy Trolley Rides, Santa’s Workshop and a live Nativity scene as well, from
Don your best holiday costume on Saturday, Dec. 8 for Santa’s Snow Shuffle 5K Fun Run/Walk at 9 a.m. It starts at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 615 Washington Street, Cedar Falls. Santa’s Workshop will be open afterwards as well from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 13 brings Hoopla Cheer downtown from 6-9 p.m. with Santa’s Beard Contest at 5 p.m. and UNI’s Interlude Dance on Main at 10 p.m. – largest ever on Main Street!Enjoy Trolley Rides, Santa’s Workshop and a live Nativity scene as well, from 6-8 p.m.
The Oster Regent is offering a little Movie Magic with a free, family showing of The Santa Clause at 10 a.m. on Dec. 15. The winners of the Coloring Contest will be announced at the movie. Santa’s Workshop will also be open for visits from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Baby, It’s Cold Outside on Thursday, Dec. 20 is the grand finale of Holiday Hoopla 2012. Come enjoy a festival of winter with ice carving, ice skating, trolley rides and musicians on Main. Santa’s Workshop will be open from 6-8 p.m. for those last-minute wishes!
The Salvation Army’s Toy Drive runs Nov. 23-Dec. 10. Drop off new, unwrapped gifts for infants-18 years old; $25 limit please. Donations will be accepted at Spinutech at 2nd St. and Washington; and the Cedar Falls Library at 5th and Main.
Downtown’s Window Display People’s Choice contest runs from Nov. 23-Dec. 17. Be sure to vote for your favorite! Ballots are available throughout downtown; place them in the red Santa 50613 mailbox at 4th and Main.

Mail your letters to Santa 50613 at the special mailbox at the corner of 4th and Main from Nov. 23-Dec. 20. Be sure to include your name and address if you want a letter back from the Big Man himself!
Come visit Santa and his helpers at his Workshop (4th and Main) on Saturdays and Thursday nights from Nov. 24-Dec. 22. Watch for the magical Light Show at Santa’s Workshop – new this year!
And as always, street parking times are doubled from now until Jan. 4 for your shopping convenience.
